What is RoMyo?
RoMyo app lets you control your Roku using your Myo armband. It reads your Myo gestures and converts them to remote control commands, which are sent to your Roku through Wi-Fi. Here is a list of available gestures and their mapping to remote control commands.
Here's a video of a quick demo showing how to use RoMyo app:

What is the difference between free version and the Mo' Myo Edition?
In the free version, the phone remote contains ads and the armband pairing has a 10 minute trial limit, after which it unpairs. After the trial period you can restart pairing and begin a new 10 minute trial!
In the Mo' Myo Edition there are no ads in the phone app and no trial period in the armband pairing process. Enjoy the app without limits! You can upgrade to the Mo' Myo Edition from the app's main menu.
How do I pair armbands with the app?
From the remote screen either press the "Start pairing Myos" button or use the "Myo armbands" option in the menu. Please make sure your armband is synced with your arm. While in the Myo Armbands screen, tap your phone on your Myo armband. Once paired you will see the armband appear in the list, showing the arm it's on and its MAC address. Your Myo armband's status LED light will turn blue indicating it is paired.
How many Myos can I connect to RoMyo?
You can pair up to 4 Myo armbands at one time with the RoMyo app. You can change this number in the Settings menu. Set it to the exact number of armbands you have so that the phone will stop searching for armbands once the maximum number is paired, which will save the phone battery.
Can I disable or unpair one or more armbands?
Yes, you can disable an armband by pressing the "Ignore" button in the Myo Armbands screen, which will still keep the band paired but ignore its gestures. You can also unpair an armband using the "Unpair" button.
When I use RoMyo my phone battery drains fast. What do I do?
Try setting the maximum number of armbands to 1 or to the exact number of armbands you have. Also, use the "Stop Myos & Exit" option in the main menu when you are done using the armband to save on battery. You will have to start pairing again when you want to use the armband again. By default the app keeps all the armbands paired when you use "Exit" or press the Android back or home key to close the app.
I have trouble pairing my armband with the app. What should I do?
If you are having trouble pairing then try the following steps and see if it works after each step before going to the next step:
- Restart pairing from the menu in the Myo Armbands screen
- Restart Bluetooth on your phone
- Use "Stop Myos & Exit" to close the app, swipe it away from Android recent apps list and restart the app again.
- Remove your Myo armband from your arm, put it back and sync it again.
In the armbands screen, my armband is showing an incorrect arm or UNKNOWN! How do I fix it?
If your Myo armband is displaying an incorrect arm or UNKNOWN in the armband screen, then it has not synced itself correctly. Please remove your armband from your arm, put it back on and sync it again. When it is showing an incorrect arm your gestures will be recognized incorrectly, for example High + Fist might be interpreted as Low + Fist, etc.
My armband has trouble recognizing my gestures, especially double tap. What gives?!
We have had trouble with gesture recognition with our test unit as well. Thalmic Labs is currently working on improving gesture recognition. Please contact their support at this page: https://support.getmyo.com. Also, make sure your armband has the latest firmware. Look for future firmware updates to fix some of these issues.
Sometimes I get an extended vibration in my armband. Why?
When RoMyo app has trouble communicating with Roku it sends a long vibration to the controlling armband to notify the user of the communication error. This error could be a momentary Wi-Fi network issue or your Roku might be turned off. You will also get the extended vibration if you haven't selected any Roku to control. You can always check the phone screen for error notifications when you feel a long vibration in your armband.
Low and high gestures are tricky, espcially when navigating and selecting movies or channels. Why are there no motion gestures like rotate or pan?
We're currently working on using motion control gestures to nagivate Roku menus instead of using the high and low gestures. Once we get them to consistently work, we'll release an update to the RoMyo app. Stay tuned!
10 seconds is too long for a lock timeout. Can I change the idle timeout before Myo locks itself?
Yes, you can change the idle/lock timeout in the Settings menu. You can choose from the following presets: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 15, 20, 30 seconds or 1 minute.
I get a lot of false double taps. Can I stop Myo from locking on a double tap gesture?
You can reduce false double taps by disabling it in the Settings menu. RoMyo app will ignore double taps when Myo is unlocked and this setting is disabled. This setting does not change the unlock on double tap gesture. Be sure to adjust the idle/lock timeout to an appropriate value to avoid other false recognitions.
Can I stop the gesture notifications from displaying on the phone screen?
Yes, you can stop all gesture notifications in the Settings menu. However you will still see the errors that occur when communicating with Roku.
Is there any usage data tracking? How do I stop sharing usage data with Thalmic Labs?
RoMyo app and Appestry does not collect any usage information. You can be confident that we do not employ any usage analytics either!
However, by default Myo usage data is shared with Thalmic labs to help them improve gesture recognition. If you do not want to share any data with them then you can disable it in the Settings menu.
How do I keep the phone remote from turning the screen off?
To keep the phone remote screen from turning off, you can turn on the "Keep phone remote open" option in the Settings menu. This option is disabled by default. However, to save battery in your phone you may want to keep this option off.
How do I connect with Roku players?
Once you install the app in your phone, make sure the phone and Roku are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. RoMyo will automatically detect Roku players in your network. If it is not able to find them, use the 'refresh' option in the Roku players menu to scan for players.
Once it finds your Roku players, you can give a friendly name to each player in the Roku players menu.
If you're having trouble then you may add the Roku player manually using the option in the Roku players menu. Enter the Roku's IP address from the Settings menu in your Roku player and give it a friendly name.
How do I switch from controlling one Roku player to another?
You can switch from one Roku player to another from players option in the app's main menu.
What is the "Mobile Hotspot" option for?
If you don't have a working Wi-Fi/Internet connection and if you want to connect your Roku to a mobile hotspot then you can enable this option to control it within the hotspot. If you are using Roku in a Wi-Fi network then don't enable this setting. Follow these steps to control a Roku player within a mobile hotspot:
- Enable "Mobile Hotspot" option in the Settings menu.
- Turn on your mobile hotspot and connect your Roku player to it.
- In the Roku players menu, manually add your Roku's IP address (192.168.x.y) and give it a friendly name.
- Refreshing players might not work in a mobile hotspot, so you might have to add it manually.
- Select the Roku player you want to control in the players menu
- Put your Myo armband on and sync your arm
- Pair your Myo with RoMyo app in the armbands menu
- Select the Roku player you want to control form the players menu
- Double tap your thumb and middle finger to unlock your Myo
- Follow the gestures listed above to control your Roku!
Do I always need a Wi-Fi network to use RoMyo?
No, if you don't have a Wi-Fi network, you could use RoMyo in a mobile hotspot to control your Roku. Follow the steps listed here.
